Appurtenant Structure
Updated: 29 February 2024
What Does Appurtenant Structure Mean?
Under a property insurance policy, the buildings located on the same premises as the main insured building are known as appurtenant structures.
Insuranceopedia Explains Appurtenant Structure
Appurtenant structures sit on the same parcel of property as the principal insured property. These include sheds, gazebos, detached apartments, and pool houses.
The majority of policies will cover these structures under most circumstances. A home insurance policy, for instance, might provide coverage for a separate garage for up to 10% the amount of coverage for the home (the principal structure).
