What Does Egress Mean?

“Egress” refers to the ability to exit or leave a place. Egress coverage, also known as ingress coverage, is included in many business interruption insurance policies. This coverage protects against profit loss from business interruptions that prevent employees from entering or leaving the company premises.

Various circumstances can prevent employees from accessing or leaving a company’s property. For example, if a large hurricane strikes, it can topple trees, cause flooding, and create significant debris pileups that obstruct safe and proper ingress (entrance) and egress (exit) from company property.
