Adjuster
What Does Adjuster Mean?
An adjuster is a professional employed by an insurance company to evaluate insurance claims. When a policyholder files a claim for damages, the adjuster investigates the circumstances and provides an estimate of the amount the insurance company should pay to cover the damages.
Insuranceopedia Explains Adjuster
During an inspection, the adjuster typically photographs the damages, interviews witnesses, and reviews relevant records, such as medical or police reports. The insurance company uses this information to determine the amount to pay for the claim.
Adjusters may be employed directly by an insurance company, but there are also independent insurance adjusters who work for multiple companies. Insurance companies often hire independent adjusters for claims in remote or rural areas where they may lack dedicated claims offices.
