Updated: 25 October 2024
What Does Dependent Coverage Mean?
Dependent coverage refers to health insurance protection provided to the dependents of the policyholder, which typically includes the spouse, children under the age of 26, and any other dependents permitted by law.
Insuranceopedia Explains Dependent Coverage
In addition to the nuclear family, dependent coverage can also extend to the policyholder’s stepson, stepdaughter, legally adopted child, a child lawfully placed with the policyholder for legal adoption, and an eligible foster child. An insurance policy that includes dependent coverage allows these dependents to access benefits up to the same level as those granted to the policyholder.
